My last shoot with Amanda (my oldest friend and one of my very first models nearly 20 years ago now) was in 2016 in Santa Fe. The one before that was in 2012 and I remember waxing poetic after our last one about how the previous 4 years had just inexplicably flown by and now: here I am, posting my favorites from our last shoot that happened 7 years following our previous one. Even sillier is the fact that for a couple years in that 6-7 year span, we actually lived an hour apart in Colorado. (We hadn’t lived that close to each other since before we both left our hometown in 2004.) And we never shot in that time. I was pregnant for 9 months of that though, and then of course busy caring for a newborn and adjusting to motherhood, so maybe I shouldn’t be so hard on myself.
Anyway, we shot in three different locations of my home when she was here visiting in November. My bedroom—the photos in this post—was the first. It’s always a bit hard for me to feel inspired by familiar surroundings, especially as familiar as my own home. But I think these came out good? Because I am so used to this space, I can’t see it objectively anymore, so I’m interested in getting some outside opinions.
All of that said, it had been a year and a half since my last shoot crazily enough, and so I definitely felt a bit rusty and out of practice. I’m glad I picked my damn camera up and returned to something in my life I have loved for so long, and I’m grateful for Amanda who enthusiastically got in front of my camera lens again. I hope we can still be collaborating like this when we’re little old ladies.
